About the hotels

Beijing, like any other capitals, boasts great number of hotels to any tastes and budgets. The star category is the same as at the Europe: a five star hotel will be exactly a 5 star hotel, and a hotel of 3 stars will be only a 3 star hotel, without correction for certain specificity of Chinese understanding the star categories. Though certain nuances might exist here: a traveler once complained that he had not been provided with the disposable slippers and the bottle opener at the 5 star "Wangfujing Grand Hotel". I did not face such troubles at the 2 star «Guotai» - everything, subjected to be changed, was changed in time qualitatively and unobtrusively, including slippers and thermos with boiled water. And the impressions from the 5 star hotels exceeded all the expectations: trained and friendly staff, highly attentive treatment, I would even say - tremulous one.

The Chinese specificity appears in positioning of the hotels. The space in Beijing is very expensive, the area reclamation is very tight, streets, except for the central avenues, are narrow. That is why it is absolutely normal that certain 3-4 star hotels do not have either private parking places or front access - only a narrow street with bicycles and cars, the front is decorated with a gray columnar transformer and two tens of cables. Or another example: The hotel “Guotai”- a year ago it was staying in the central avenue of Beijing , but now there is a modern skyscraper - the head office of the LG company - in-between this hotel and the avenue. So the rooms of this hotel now are overlooking the construction site with the twenty-four-hours construction works.
